Real Peace in Our Workplaces
If it is possible, as
far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all men. [Romans 12:18]
If you are like most people, your
workplace is your second home. In fact, some of you probably spend more time
at work than you do at home! Because of this, having a peaceful workplace is very
important in your pursuit of real wealth.
Here are our tips...
Remember that no matter what your
position at work, you answer to someone. (Even the CEO answers to a board of directors and
stockholders...a small business owner answers to his employees and customers.) It is
up to you to make their job of supervising you as easy as possible. Treat them with
respect--their position deserves it--it doesn't matter if you like them personally.
Treat everyone you come in contact
with with respect. (That doesn't mean that you have to be this person's best friend;
just be pleasant.) You represent not only yourself, but the company you work for.
Be firm and just with subordinates.
Think about how you'd like your boss to treat you.
Be diligent--you are here to
work--do the work you are assigned quickly and efficiently.
Give credit where credit is
due--this goes both up and down the ladder.
Don't steal...this covers many
areas...don't steal your paycheck by goofing off, don't steal inventory, don't steal by
making long distance calls on the company bill...you get the idea.
Try to work out disputes with
co-workers in private, one on one, in a calm courteous manner. Use
discretion...sometimes it isn't worth the grief it will cause, and it is better just to
bite your tongue. If there is a real problem, consult a supervisor in private--but
only after you have talked to the person yourself.
