| Our homes are possibly the most important areas to look
at safety issues. Most accidents occur at home. Here at Real Wealth Building,
we check daily for hazards in the home. If you would like a safety checklist for
your home, click here. In addition to these hazards, there are
other safety issues that most people probably never even think about. We have
included links and articles that will help identify some of these potential problems, and
possibly offer some solutions. Awareness is the first step... |

| Chemicals--our homes have
more chemicals in them than we realize. Studies have concluded that the home is one
of the most toxic environments we encounter in our daily routine. We eat, breathe,
and wear chemicals.
Alternatives To Caustic Chemicals in the home:
1. Make your own
2. Buy safer products from companies that
have removed the environmental hazards from their products.

A Moyers Report In a recent PBS special which aired March 26, 2001, Bill
Moyers revealed that "Of the more than 75,000 chemicals registered with the
Environmental Protection Agency, only a fraction have gone through complete testing to
find out whether they might cause problems for human health. Many that are produced in
enormous quantities have never been tested at all." |

Harm's Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development
"Research demonstrates that pervasive toxic substances, such as mercury, lead, PCBs,
dioxins, pesticides, solvents, and others, can contribute to neurobehavioral and cognitive
disorders. Human exposure to neurotoxic substances is widespread. A
review of the top twenty chemicals reported released under the 1997 Toxics Release
Inventory reveals that nearly three-quarters are known or suspected neurotoxicants. Over
a billion pounds of these neurotoxic chemicals were released on-site by facilities into
the air, land or water. As our knowledge about these neurotoxic chemicals has
increased, the "safe" threshold of exposure has been continuously revised
downward. Toxic exposures deserve special scrutiny because they are preventable
causes of harm." |

| Food--the food we eat is
vital to our safety, and the safety of our families. In this day and age of
technology, our food is being changed in ways we can only begin to understand. Chemicals
and compounds we cannot pronounce, pesticides with known and unknown side effects, and
genetically modified foods mean we do not know what grocery store shelves have on them
anymore. It is up to us to educate ourselves and make informed decisions about the
food we eat. |
How Toxic is Your Diet? "Health
experts long have warned of the dangers of high-fat foods that can lead to heart disease
or cancer. New studies show that each fatty bite may also carry a dose of highly
toxic chemicals... From ice cream and fish bought in the grocery store to
Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's Big Mac, all samples collected from across the
United States contained trace amounts of dioxin that well exceed many government
regulations, according to the studies." |

"As people grow older, their chances of being victims of crime
decrease dramatically. But a lifetime of experience coupled with the physical problems
associated with aging often make older Americans fearful. Even though they may be on the
lookout constantly for physical attack and burglary, theyre not as alert for frauds
and con games - in reality the greatest crime threat to seniors well-being and
trust." |
